Make sure you have your eyes tested regularly. By having regular eye tests you can often prevent deterioration in your sight, or any signs of a problem with your sight can be detected and treated earlier.
Smokers are more likely than non-smokers to lose their sight later in life from conditions such as AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration). If you do not smoke, don’t start, if you do, try to stop.
Try to eat more healthily. Foods containing Vitamins A,C and E can help prevent some conditions. Green vegetables such as spinach are also believed to help your eye health.
Protect your eyes when you are in the sun. If you are unable to wear sunglasses try to wear a hat with a wider brim to protect your eyes.
Doing it yourself? Make sure you wear safety goggles. Up to 250,000 eye injuries a year are caused through people not wearing eye protection when carrying out D.I.Y.
