Services for Children, Young People and Families

Vista's young service users enjoying a trip to Keswick in June 2007

What is the Children and Young people's and Families Service?

Vista provides year round service, activities and programmes to any visually impaired child, young person or their family who live in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland between the ages of 0 - 25.

What educational support is available?

Vista works with the visually impaired teaching service to ensure support and guidance is available in both mainstream and specialist schools. Jointly, we plan educational activities to promote learning in a relaxing stimulating environment.

What types of programmes are available?

Vista follows a number of government outcomes such as the Every Child Matters and Here by Right Frameworks to promote independence.  Some of our regular programmes include:

  • Summer and Half Term Activity Schemes.
  • Residential Holidays.
  • Advice and Information.
  • Music Therapy.
  • Visually Impaired Sporting Opportunities such as Goalball.
  • Support groups for parents or carers.
  • Transistional support for young people changing school or moving into work or higher education.
  • Life Skills Course promoting independence.

Many of our programmes are available to family and friends and provide a great opportunity to make friends. We also assist  young adults seeking employment by offering support, guidance and signposting to agencies who specialise in employment.

'I just wanted to thank you for a fantastic day at Drayton Manor. We really appreciate everthing you have done for us!'

'We would like to thank you for looking after our son so well during the adventure to Keswick. He informs us he enjoyed every minute of his trip as it was his firsy 'without us'.'

'My daughter has been a member of Vista for many years and as a family we have enjoyed and benefited from their service. It is great to have activities to take her to that are particulary designed for children like her.'
