About this role:


Community Explorers explore issues that matter to themselves and their communities, and share their learning with a wider audience.


Volunteer duties:

  • Community Explorers will be supported to develop ideas for learning projects individually and in small groups, and share their ideas in creative ways e.g. by creating posters, films, and poems and through conversations with others at events or in cafes
  • Community Explorers will be introduced to ways to keep themselves and each other safe, and to make sure everyone is treated fairly in the project

Qualities and skills we are looking for:

  • Good communication skills – particularly active listening

  •  Life experience – ideally we’d like our community researchers to be older people themselves – that is aged over 50 years

  • Sensitivity and understanding of issues that affect older people

  • Willingness to attend meetings and training events - we will reimburse your travel expenses

Support provided for you:

  • Training and advice to support your ideas for change
  • Regular meetings with other LAT Community Explorer volunteers
  • Support from the LAT Learning Officer and colleagues at Leicester Vaughan College
