Low Vision Clinic and Aids to Daily Living

Gentleman and opthalmologist during an assessment Low Vision Clinic Assessment

Low Vision Clinic

Why do I need to attend the Low Vision Clinic?

Your Consultant, Doctor or Optician may refer you to attend the Low Vision Clinic so your sight can be assessed by an Optometrist. Following your assessment you may be issued with a magnification aid to help you with your reading and other tasks.

How will I know I have been referred?

Your Consultant or Doctor will advise you that a referral is being processed when they see you at the hospital. You will then reeive a telephone call from the Low Vision Clinic Administrator confirming your referral has been received. Your appointment where possible will be made over the telephone and you will be advised what the current waiting time is. You will then receive written confirmation advising you of the time and date of your appointment.

Do I have to pay for my magnifiers?

No, the Opthometrist will offer you various types of magnifier and you will be able to try them out whilst in the clinic. Once you have found a magnifier that suits your needs you will be able to take it away on loan.
