Increasing accessibility with Mirthy Events

Published on 8th February 2023 in General

Rest Less Events (previously called Mirthy) deliver/offer activities and events for an online community. We are partnering with Rest Less Events following our programme of online activities, Virtual Activity, to test out the accessibility of this mainstream website and offer advice regarding access for people with sight loss.

Members of the Forum recently met with the Event Team. Overall the website and activities were found to be largely accessible for the group. Some small changes were taken onboard, particularly making certain pages more accessible for screen readers.

Rest Less Events have now given Vista access to 1 month premium membership for free, which means unlimited access to events. Usually free membership is restricted to 4 events a month.

To try it out too, you can use the following link, which is available until 31st March: https://events.restless.co.uk/accounts/registration/VISTATRIAL

"I found it very easy to use the website and to book an event. There is a wide variety of talks and exercises available, including a good session on tech. All of the sessions were enjoyable and if you wanted to ask questions they were very helpful when it came to unmuting. I would recommend it to people to try. Most of the talks were very descriptive, so having a visual impairment didn’t spoil them at all."

"Mirthy have a really varied list of events, there must be something to suit everyone.  Sessions I’ve joined include an interview with the author Clare Pooley about her book The People on Platform 5, a virtual tour of South Africa, a talk about Oxford and the authors Lewis Carroll, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien who all lived there.  They also did a special history talk about the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings for Vista members which was excellent.  I’ve signed up for two more over the next couple of weeks too."
