Fatima, Faisal and Ilyaas's Story

Faisal and Ilyaas have grown up with sight loss. Their mum, Fatima, has been alongside them every step of the way.

The family originally moved to the UK from the Netherlands looking for better support.

Not long after arriving, they were introduced to Vista.

Since then, Vista has been part of their lives through school, college and the many moments that come with growing up. It’s helped Faisal and Ilyaas try new things, meet others with similar experiences and see sight loss differently.

For Fatima, it has also meant having someone to turn to. Someone who understands what families are going through and can offer guidance and reassurance along the way.

In this video, they describe Vista as being part of the glue that holds people together. Without it, so much could drift apart.

We’re very grateful to Faisal, Fatima and Ilyaas for sharing their story as part of Vista’s emergency appeal.

[Video description: The video shows three members of the same family speaking to camera in separate clips. They are seated at a table in a room with light coloured walls and wooden panelling. Faisal appears first. He has short curly dark hair and wears glasses, a brown padded vest over a beige top, and a lanyard that reads “Student.” He holds a Vista leaflet while speaking. Ilyaas appears next. He has short curly dark hair and wears glasses and a blue jumper. A purple Vista banner can be seen behind him. Fatima appears in another clip. She wears a green hijab and a black top and holds a small microphone as she speaks. Colouring sheets and pens are visible on the table in front of her.]
