Emotional Wellbeing

Sight loss can affect far more than just your vision. It can bring changes to the way you live, work, and socialise — and it’s normal to feel frustration, anxiety, sadness, or even grief as you adjust.

Looking after your mental and emotional health is just as important as managing your physical health. At Vista, we’re here to make sure you don’t face those challenges alone.

A safe space to talk

Sometimes, simply having someone listen without judgement can make a big difference. Our friendly team is here to:

  • Hear your concerns and help you work through them.
  • Offer reassurance and practical advice tailored to your needs.
  • Connect you with other sources of professional emotional support if needed.

Whether you prefer to speak over the phone, meet in person, or join an informal group chat, we can help you find the right space to open up.

Peer support

Meeting others who understand your experiences can help you feel less isolated and more

supported. Vista offers:

  • Local social groups — relaxed meet-ups like coffee mornings where you can share stories, swap tips, and make friends.
  • Online forums and communities — for those who prefer to connect from home.
  • Activity groups — a chance to try something new in a supportive environment.

Building confidence

When your confidence takes a knock, small, positive steps can help rebuild it. We can support you to:

  • Get back into hobbies you enjoy.
  • Learn new skills - from using assistive technology to navigating your local area.
  • Feel more comfortable getting out and about again.

Our Tech Together volunteers, Assessment and Rehabilitation specialists, and social activity teams can work with you to set achievable goals and help you meet them.

Staying connected

Loneliness can have a big impact on emotional wellbeing. That’s why we run regular community events and can help you find local support networks. Visit our Preventing Isolation page to explore ways to stay connected.

Remember: You don’t need to have all the answers, and you don’t need to go through this alone. Vista is here to walk alongside you, every step of the way.
