Update To Vista Statutory Services

Published on 2nd April 2026

We have been truly overwhelmed by the extraordinary support from the local community for our recent emergency appeal.

We have seen an incredible response from individuals, groups, and local organisations, with many going above and beyond to raise funds and show their support during this challenging period.

Jean Voller, our Chair of Trustees shared:

“We have been deeply moved by the kindness, generosity, and determination shown by so many in our community. The support we’ve received has meant more than we can fully express, and it is a powerful reminder of how valued Vista’s services are by the people who rely on them every day.”

Despite these remarkable efforts, we have not reached the level of funding required to secure the charity’s long-term future in its current form.  However, we are delighted to announce that our statutory services will be transferred to BID Services. BID Services, like ourselves, has a long history of supporting local communities and provides specialist support to those who are deaf, hard of hearing, sight impaired or deafblind and will bring this specialism and commitment to ensuring our statutory services continue. This transfer will take place on the 6th May 2026, and will ensure a seamless transition for our service users.

All service users impacted by the change will be contacted directly by BID Services in the coming weeks, and we are working with them to ensure as smooth a transition in provider as possible.

Gail Penberthy, CEO of BID Services said:

“We are deeply saddened by Vista’s news as they have long been a well-respected provider of specialist services for those with sight impairments and have given a great deal to their community. We have huge shoes to fill and are working closely with Vista’s staff team and the local councils to ensure we can continue their legacy and ensure that the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland continue to receive the high-quality, specialist support they are used to.”

We are now exploring options with potential partners to help to safeguard our other vital non-statutory services which include children and young people, tech together, community meet ups and Vista shops.

Funds raised through our appeal will enable support to be provided to people affected by sight loss in the immediate term and as we work through this period of transition.

Further updates on next steps will be shared in the coming weeks.

We know this is an unsettling time and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch via phone on 0116 249 8839 or email info@vistablind.org.uk.
