What Vista got up to during National Eye Health Week 2023

To celebrate National Eye Health Week, we hosted a variety of events across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Our mobile support service visited GP surgeries, Leicester Royal Infirmary, our Kathleen Rutland and New Wycliffe residential homes, local high streets and an event at the Leicester Riders Foundation to provide free eye screenings, share crucial eye care information and raise awareness for the services we provide to people with sight loss.

We also partnered with local businesses such as the Attenborough Arts Centre. At the Attenborough Arts Centre, artist Joanna Holland granted our guests a talk and tour about her ‘Out of the blue’ exhibition, to discover how a form of sight loss transformed her vision into a world of vivid blues.

This accessible experience, used audio and braille guides to help immerse the audience in her creations, including photographs, video, soundscapes and text from bodies of work developed over three years.

Marlene, who attended the event with her daughter said, "this event is great, and the artist, because it's giving everyone a chance to experience art without boundaries".

On Saturday 23rd September, we warmly invited the community to our Open Day at our new offices from 10:am until 2:00pm. During the event, they had the opportunity meet the team and attend informative sessions to learn more about independent living aids, available grants and funding, what volunteering at Vista looks like, and participate in a consultation review.

These events gave people the opportunity to learn about the importance of sight tests, explore the charity’s services, meet their dedicated and gain insights into their impactful work.
