Karen

Vista runs regular social groups, which provide local people with sight loss the opportunity to get together and take part in various activities.

Karen has been attending the Thurnby Lodge social group for as long as it’s been going and attended the sessions at Gedding road before that. “All in all, too long!” Karen said, laughing. “I love it, I’ve made so many friends through these groups.”

Karen really enjoys the wide range of activities the Vista social groups put on, but her favourite is the crafting, “We’ll be doing arts and crafts one month, making cards and baubles for Christmas, even Lanterns.” Although she also likes the culinary delights, “sometimes a few of us will go to the pub afterwards for a bite to eat, and we all go out together and get a big dinner together at Christmas.”

When she’s not at the Thurnby Lodge group she likes to keep herself busy, “I look after my allotment when I can, and attend a few other groups locally. The Vista group falls perfectly in the month, so I can always do everything I want to.” Meeting on the 2nd Monday of the month means that she doesn’t need to miss precious time tending to her vegetable patch.

“Above all, I love the supporting atmosphere here. Everyone getting out of the house and talk, making things, and having fun together. It’s nice.”
