Vista's On Board with Sight Loss project

Vista is working in collaboration with GO Travel Solutions (GTS) to make public transport more accessible for people with sight loss across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland (LLR) as part of the Tackling Loneliness with Transport fund.

The project is being delivered in three phases:

  1. We will provide information on local transport options to everyone on the LLR sight loss register in their preferred format – large print, XL print, XXL print, braille, audio, and email.
  2. We will educate local transport providers about the accessibility needs of people with sight loss and teach them how to identify and support a person with sight loss. This programme will be delivered via pre-recorded video.
  3. We will recommend improvements to local transport hubs to make them more accessible. Alternations will include things like implementing tactile paving, clearly marking curbs with bright colours, and making signage readable for those with visual impairments.

We’ve created a range of short videos to help bus, rail and taxi staff identify and support passengers with sight loss. Simply watch the videos and take our quick quiz to receive your certificate and badge of accreditation in the post! By doing this, you will be helping to improve the accessibility of local transport for people affected by sight loss.
